Using public datasets detailing the location of working Australian mines, along with open source software, the plotting of mining activity in Australia immediately forms a recognisable landmass.

A single word raises the complex relationship between land rights, ownership, industry and cultural identity in this country. The gesture of giving and taking presents a choice, the consequence of which can be witnessed in the gallery over the course of the exhibition. In the physical and cultural Australian landscape, the giving and taking associated with the mining of resources has much larger consequences.
